Since beginning my teaching career in 2005, I have been passionate about ensuring that students have a firm educational foundation. I have experience teaching professionally in 3 states and 3 countries. I am a firm believer that strong reading and comprehension skills are key to success in and outside of the school setting.
I have a Bachelor's of Education degree, a teaching license, and a combined 20 years of teaching experience including both classroom and online teaching. I began exploring and gaining additional certification in the science of reading in 2022. This training, combined with years of teaching experience, has allowed me to offer greater support to beginning and struggling readers of all ages with structured lessons that lead to noticeable reading improvement.
I founded Lotus Literacy with a goal to personalize tutoring. Many leading online programs follow a factory model of teaching, assessing, and passing students on to the next level. Some don't prioritize reading comprehension at all. However, a child who can read words without understanding them is still going to have great difficulty in upper elementary and beyond.
At Lotus Literacy, students will be treated like individuals. The priority is to ensure that students have a great phonics foundation for reading while also exposing them to reading books for pleasure, expanding vocabulary, and increased fluency. Lessons include time for reading so that children can see reading as something enjoyable and useful rather than something they are required to do for school.

The Lotus Mission
We make reading accessible and enjoyable by removing the hurdle of "struggle" when it comes to reading. Our individual tutoring sessions allows personalized instruction to ensure that every student has a firm foundation in phonemic awareness and phonics. Also, we read A LOT here. In addition to building fluency and comprehension, we are determined to help this generation discover the JOY OF READING!
